Additional investment in Oklahoma
Tenaska, with a presence in Oklahoma for more than 25 years, is considering a natural gas-fueled power plant in Creek County. This facility would add reliability to the regional electric grid amid growing power demand, as well as generate jobs, tax revenue and other local economic benefits.
Proposed Railhead Generating Station
Tenaska is evaluating the development of a natural gas-fueled power plant capable of generating up to 1,400 megawatts (MW), enough to power 1.4 million homes. Natural gas remains the cleanest fossil fuel for dispatchable and reliable power generation, and the market demand for reliable natural gas generation is growing.
Tenaska has identified a location in Creek County that has access to transmission, natural gas supply and water infrastructure. The proposed facility would be a combined-cycle generating facility.
On our current timeline, we anticipate a three- to five-year development period. Assuming we obtain all necessary permits and approvals, the earliest construction start date would be late 2028. We anticipate construction will take four to five years before the facility is operational.
Decades of responsible energy generation
Tenaska has been a good business neighbor in Oklahoma for over 25 years. We have built positive relationships here and feel like a welcomed and valued member of the community.
Since 2003, Tenaska Kiamichi Generating Station, in Pittsburg County, Oklahoma, has operated in a safe and responsible manner, while also providing stable jobs and tax revenue. The plant team collaborates with community leaders, first responders, the chamber, schools and more. Railhead Generating Station would continue our commitment to collaborating with and investing in the communities we do business in.
We look forward to working with the Creek County community to make this additional investment a reality.

Benefitting Creek County’s economy
As our work progresses, we will commission an economic impact study to quantify the benefits of a project here. We expect Railhead Generating Station will provide benefits similar to Tenaska’s natural gas-fueled plant, Kiamichi Generating Station:
-
Job opportunities
Construction created hundreds of jobs and provided millions of dollars in contracts for construction-related goods and services from Oklahoma companies.
-
Long-term employment
Operation of the facility provided jobs for 37 full-time employees, resulting in more than $12.9 million in salaries and payments to local contractors and vendors annually.
-
Boosted tax revenue
The facility has paid over $65.9 million dollars in property taxes over its lifetime.
-
Community investment
The plant and its employees support various local efforts and organizations, either through volunteer hours or monetary support.
